Coaches

  • Tom

    Tom is one of the founders of Metrobox, and is driven to create a gym where members are valued and given the opportunity to be the best version of themselves.

    Falling in love with the sport in 2013, Tom went onto represent the Met Police Boxing Club on 10 occasions, with the highlight being winning gold at the Police & Fire Games in Los Angeles 2017. As well as with the Met, Tom also trained at Fitzroy Lodge and Surbiton where he had the opportunity to learn the craft from some great coaches. Since 2018 Tom has been involved in coaching for the Met and community clubs. Tom is a Level 2 England Boxing coach and a local police officer.

  • Richard

    Richard started boxing in 2002 with Finchley and District boxing club and has gone on to box for both Brighton City and later returning to the club where he started Finchley and District.

    Having proven himself on the amateur circuit, Richard was selected to box for Sussex County as part of the Southern Counties Boxing Squad.

    Richard has been involved in Boxing with the Metropolitan Police since 2017. Richard has a passion for helping develop boxers whether they are young or old to achieve their aims, whether that be to improve their boxing skills, improve their fitness or just to become more confident. Alongside being one of the most experienced coaches on the team, Richard is a level 2 England Boxing coach.

  • Bartosz

    At the age of 17 Bartodez he began his boxing adventure under the guidance of a multiple-time Polish champion and '80 World Championships finalist. Bartosz trained for several years, competing in many amateur bouts in his home country of Poland. In 2018 Bartosz moved to England to develop as a boxer, where he looks to continue competing. Having sharpened his skills alongside professional boxers in Bristol, he now looks to share his broad and detailed boxing knowledge with boxers at Metrobox London.

    Bartosz is a level 2 England Boxing coach and has also obtained a Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training.

    Bartosz puts his whole heart into boxing. He believes that with hard work and discipline, you can outwork talent. In boxing, he emphasises technique because we are tested for our weaknesses and not our strengths in the ring. That is why Bartosz makes sure that every student is ready both mentally and physically to fight in the ring.

  • Martha

    Martha, who is one of our experienced England Boxing level 1 coaches, has been with the club for 2 years since its founding. Martha has a wealth of experience working with young people, having previously volunteered with children services for 5 years in Nottinghamshire. With this experience under her belt, she is well equipped as our club welfare officer. Martha who has a sporting background enjoys maximising the potential of young people and particularly excels in mentoring young people who benefit from more one-to-one guidance.

    Martha takes a holistic approach to sport and boxing, understanding that it is important to develop young people as individuals and athletes simultaneously. Martha is passionate about ensuring the club is a safe and inclusive space where young people can enjoy themselves.

  • Mickel

    Mickel joined us in the Spring of 2022 through the Mayor of London endorsed Kickstarter scheme. Mickel has a true passion for boxing, on his days off he will be found studying the game, whether it's Willie Pep or Gervonta Davis.

    Mickel has his first bout for Metrobox in February 2022 where he showed his boxing accument against a solid home boxer to secure the win.

    Mickel, who is an England Boxing level 1 coach, is always warm and welcoming and particularly enjoys working with new boxers.

  • Cory

    Whilst Cory has been interested in boxing from an early age, watching the likes of Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis, his involvement in coaching began after seeing how well his son and daughter had taken to boxing at Metrobox. Cory, who is passionate about fitness, understand the value of boxing for mental discipline and physical health. The ever patient Cory is great at taking time to break down fundamentals to beginner boxers.  

    Cory has recently passed his England Boxing level 1 coaching course, which he will use to develop the technical skills of his kids at the club, as well as other young people from Islington and Camden.

  • Samantha Mason

    Samantha has been involved in the fitness and striking space for over 16 years, 8 of which within boxing. Samantha was introduced to boxing via the white collar side of things where she has a 3-0 record, before being introduced to the amateur code. Samantha has worked in gyms across London, but has always given back to her North London roots by working with local charities to deliver to women and young people.

    Samantha has a wealth of relevant experience including being a level 1 England Boxing coach, a qualified community sports leader, level 1 weightlifting qualification, level 2 fitness instructor, a level 3 person training qualification to name a few. Samantha who leads the Islington sessions from 5-8pm brings an amazing out of energy to her sessions, which is infectious for participants and other coaches alike!

  • Linda

    After seeing the wonders boxing did for Linda’s own children, Linda embarked on a journey to understand the sport further and become a coach. Being a North London local, Linda is particularly passionate about providing opportunities to young people from her community.

    As well as being an England Boxing qualified level 1 coach, Linda is the Child Welfare Officer for the Metrobox London sessions run within Sobell Leisure Centre. With 9 years of volunteering in youth provisions such as the NW5 Project, she has an in depth understanding of child welfare.

    I’m a mum to 3 kids all of whom have done boxing. Got into boxing a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. Wanted to learn more so got a level 1 qualification in boxing. Hoping to gain more experience and knowledge with volunteering.

    I’m the chair of the NW5 play project. Have helped out a lot when short of staff. Did all the basic safeguarding like incident reports. Did trips with them. I’ve interviewed new staff members.

    9 years I’ve volunteered at NW5. And that’s no problem, I enjoy the sessions.
